VII. LIGHTING INSTRUMENT DRAWINGS

	 The file includes instrument designs for theatre and architectural 
 lighting, plus designs for instrument accessories and other stage electrical
 hardware. Also included are a few light grid designs and drawings of 
 manufacturers' suggested equipment layouts.  The numbering system is 
 arbitrary, intended simply to group designs for similar types of 
 equipment.  The drawings are stored in Drawer 1 in the Libary Annex in 
 the Academic Acativities Building.


VII- 100  Clemencon--PROJECTEUR AU XENON; 1 kw.
     45 sepia prints.  Xenon follow spot with vertical optical 
     train.  An example of the unit is in the Archives, I-M8.


VII- 220  George Nelson Design Associates--FRESNEL
     1 copy Design commissioned by Century Lighting for a unit intended to 
     be competitive with other fresnel spots, while setting new standards 
     in the field for integrity of industrial design. Features corrugated
     body for heat dissipation, allen-socket tilt lock, hand adjustable 
     pan-lock, hand crank focus.  Only one prototype built, now located in
     Archives, I-FR6.  Drawing dated 13 Feb 1954.


VII- 221  Lighting and Electronics--7" FRESNEL
     78 copies, 5 half-sz copies, 3 qtr-sz copies Mechanics by W. H. Allison,
     optics by Howard Brandston.  Several revisions, dated 1963-64, for
     an extremely compact unit utilizing a step lens and a T-lamp with an 
     internal spherical reflector.  Unit was not produced.


VII- 230  Lighting and Electronics--7" ELLIPSOIDAL REFLECTOR SPOTLIGHT
     43 drwgs, 10 qtr-sz drwgs Design by W. H. Allison, optics by Howard
     Brandston.  Several revisions, dated 1964. Unit to be fabricated of 
     spun and die-cast aluminum, using single PC lens.  Features rotating 
     shutter assembly, template slot, flatted reflector.  Unit
     was not produced.


VII- 270  Century Lighting--BORDER LIGHTS
     Designs for A and PS lamps 100 drwgs Drawings for specific 
     installations, all variations on a few designs using Alzak reflectors,
     most with 75 or 100w A lamps on 6" centers, wired for 3 color circuits.


VII- 271  Century Lighting--BORDERLIGHT, STRIPLIGHT AND BULLSEYE
     Designs for R and PAR lamps 8 drwgs.  Both open and enclosed units for 
     theatre and/or general display uses.


VII- 272  Century Lighting--QSB/F SERIES STRIP LIGHTS
     3 copies Both border and foot units for cyc lighting using quartz lamps.
     Features spring-hinged cover in two sections to retain filters.
     Wired 3 circuits as border, one or two circuits as foots.  Ctr.to ctr. 
     spacing 10-1/2" to 12" (different designs).  Frames are for stripped 
     glass filters.   Drawings date 1962-63.


VII- 273  Lighting and Electronics--STRIP LIGHTS WITH SCREW BASE
     R/PAR lamps 12 drwgs, 5 sheet supply list.  Design by W. H. Allison.  
     Compact, light weight unit using die-cast aluminum for compartment
     light baffles, with extruded aluminum structural framework.  Individual
     spring-loaded compartments for filter holders designed to accept stripped
     glass, glass roundels, or plastic filters.  Dated 1962-63.
     Prototype unit is in Archives (I-FL3).


VII- 274  Lighting and Electronics--300-500w PAR-56 STRIP LIGHT
     4 copies.  A variation of the design above, adapted forPAR-56 end prong
     lamps. Dated 9/1/73.


VII- 280  Century Lighting--FOOTLIGHT DESIGNS
     12 drwgs, 1 copy, 1 qtr-sz copy.  Both exposed and retractable units, 
     including some with motor-drive.


VII- 300  W. H. Allison--ARCHITECTURAL UNITS
     4 copies.  Designs for Century Lighting; various architectural units, 
     exhibition booths.  See also VIII-59525, architectural units for the

     For A and PS lamps; 67 drwgs, 15 qtr-sz drwgs.  Primarily downlights 
     and wall washers with spherical reflectors; some using fresnel lenses.
     Both concealed and decorative units; various lamp-shielding devices.  
     A few use silver bowl lamps.  Includes some with limited pan and/or
     tilt capability.


VII- 320  Century Lighting--ARCHITECTURAL UNITS
     For R, PAR, and side-silvered lamps; 38 drwgs, 10 qtr-sz drwgs.
     Both concealed and exposed "Drama-light" units, some with swivel or 
     other pan/tilt capability. Both screw base and end prong lamps.  Some 
     with filter holders.

     For T lamps; 5 drwgs.  Downlights and wall washers.


VII- 340  Century LIghting--ARCHITECTURAL UNITS
     For Lumiline lamps; 4 drwgs, 4 qtr-sz drwgs. Exit signs, downlights,
     and wall washers.


VII- 350  Century Lighting--ARCHITECTURAL UNITS
     For fluorescent lamps; 11 drwgs, 1 half-sz drwg, 3 qtr-sz
     drwgs.  Single and grouped lamp designs for various applications.


VII- 410  Century Lighting--EXPERIMENTAL C-CLAMP
     4 qtr-sz drwgs, parts list. Requires no tools.  Designed by Walter 
     A. Levy, 5/57.


VII- 411  Lighting and Electronics--C-CLAMP
     8 copies, 4 qtr-sz copies, 2 sheets of supplies. Requires no tools,
     fits 3/4" to 2" pipe.  Final design by Robert Wolff, 1964-65.


VII- 420  Century Lighting--ROLLING STANDS
     2 drwgs.  No. 3217 Type R stand, adjustable 4-7'. Counterbalanced 
     stand for No. 1542-G Leko Follow Spot.


VII- 500  Century Lighting--HARD WIRE STAGE DISTROBUTION HARDWARE
     110 drwgs, 14 qtr-sz drwgs.  Drawings for specific installations, all
     variations on a few designs for connector strips, wireways, junction 
     boxes, and lamp boxes.


VII- 501  Lighting and Electronics--CONNECTOR STRIP
     1 copy.


VII- 610  Century Lighting--LEKOLITE AND PROJECT-O-LITE
     Recessed ceiling mounts; 26 drwgs, 14 qtr-sz drwgs.  Drawings for 
     specific installations based on a few standard designs.  Both 
     theatrical and architectural installations represented.  All
     feature special yoke or mounting bracket for limited pan and tilt 
     movement through ceiling port, and funnel or screening device to conceal
     unit within port.


VII- 620  Century Lighting--VERTICAL MOUNTING POSITIONS
     4 drwgs, 1 qtr-sz drwg.  Ladders, booms, and wall brackets (pipes to be
     bolted to theatre wall in tormentor position).


VII- 650  Century Lighting--GRID DESIGNS AND SUGGESTED LAYOUTS
     9 drwgs, 5 qtr-sz drwgs.  Primarily TV studio designs using Mobilrail
     grid system.


VII- 700  KLIEGL BROS., INC.
     352 Drawings for jobs 1 thru 150 (with 16 numbers not assigned).
     Most of the jobs were dated in the late 1930s and early 1940s, with 
     the earliest being from 1932 and the latest from 1945. Most of the 
     drawings are of architectural fixtures, but 57 are theatre-related.
