Penn State University Resident Theatre presents Twelfth Night, January 28-31

January 22, 2007

The Penn State second-year M.F.A. graduate actors will present a free performance of Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare, with esteemed guest director John Basil, January 28-31, 2007, in the Pavilion Theatre, on the University Park campus.

BASIL is the Producing Artistic Director and founding member of American Globe Theatre, where he has directed many of Shakespeare's works, some of which include Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet, The Winter's Tale, King Lear, Twelfth Night, As You like It, and Much Ado About Nothing. John's unique style and exciting approach to both the classics and contemporary theatre has created a demand for his talents at regional theaters and universities alike. He has directed works of great diversity-from Richard III and The Two Gentlemen of Verona to Proposals and Candida-for the Asolo Theatre, American Stage Festival, Bradley University, and the University of Colorado, to name a few. Along the way he has also directed five seasons of opera at Sarasota Opera.

His dynamic and upbeat Playing Shakespeare Series continues to enlighten and inspire actors across the nation. He helped to launch the Sedona Shakespeare Festival in Arizona and has presented his workshops for Columbia Teachers College, Penn State, and Oklahoma State University. John's dual role as artistic director and producer of American Globe Theatre has kept the company in the black for 16 years. In addition to overseeing the daily management of American Globe Theatre, he is also a professor at Montclair State University and the author of Will Power: How to Act Shakespeare in 21 Days.

Performances are January 28 thru 30, at 7 p.m.; January 31, at 5 p.m., and are free and open to the public.
