Walkup named School of Theatre student marshal

04/14/2003—Michael Walkup, son of Charles and Patricia Walkup of Emmaus, Pa., has been named the School of Theatre student marshal for spring 2003 commencement ceremonies, to be held at noon on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. The title of department marshal is awarded to the student who has earned the highest overall grade-point average in the department.

Receiving a B.A. in Theatre, Walkup is a College of Arts and Architecture 2003 Creative Achievement Award winner and a Phi Beta Kappa nominee. He is a co-producer of the Outlaws Playwrights’ Workshop, artistic director of the AIDS benefit, MasquerAIDS, and producer of Shakespeare in the Courtyard. He is also on the administrative board of Planned Parenthood of Northeast Pennsylvania and is an HIV testing counselor through Penn State’s Office of Health Promotion and Education.

Walkup will pursue his M.F.A. in Dramaturgy/Dramatic Criticism at Yale’s School of Drama.
