Steve was previously the Head of the John McLinn Ross Theatre program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Conceived and directed The Hip Hop Project and American Taboo. CLARK Head of Dance Minor Dance etc3@psu.edu MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from The Ohio State University. She has taught at The Ohio State University, Wittenberg University, Kenyon College, and Columbus Youth Ballet. Her creative work has been presented at the Clarice Smith Center in Baltimore, Bates Dance Festival in Maine, International Fringe Festival in Toronto, WAX Works and HATCH in New York City, Northeast Ohio Dance Festival in Cleveland, the GLUE Performance Series and the Philly Fringe Festival in Philadelphia. Elisha has performed with HiJinks Dance Company, Nicole Stanton, Balinda Craig-Quijada, Memphis Dance Group, Michele Dunleavy, and John Giffin. Served on the faculties of the Catholic University of America, Point Park University and George Mason University teaching jazz, tap and modern dance. She was a principal dancer with the DANA Movement Ensemble, Physical Theater Project and The Emily Berry Dance Company and has performed in works by Andrea Woods, Danny Buraczeski, Claire Porter and David Parsons. As an independent choreographer, Michele has produced over twenty original and diverse dances including commissions by the Physical Theater Project and H2O Contemporary Dance. >> Full Biography SUZANNE ELDER Costume Technology and Make-Up sse1@psu.edu 30-year career in theatrical costuming, including educational theatre, professional theatre , and commercial manufacturing of architectural soft goods and dancewear. Faculty-teaching positions include Illinois State University, the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Beaver College and Penn State. Professional work includes execution of various costumes for the 2002 Cervantes Production of Man of La Mancha on Broadway, Pennsylvania Centre Stage, The Manhattan School of Music, Papermill Play-house, Louisville Opera Theatre, New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, the McCarter Theatre, and the Princeton Ballet. Thirteen years as a costumer collaborating with Walt Disney Theatrical Productions on the mounting of The Lion King on Broadway, Nickelodeon Studios on their annual production of A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, Macy’s Department Stores on their annual Thanksgiving Day Parade, and Hershey Park Entertainment. >> Full Biography SPENCE FORD Head of Dance for BFA Musical Theatre Dance spenceford@psu.edu Professional dancer and choreographer. Has worked with Bob Fosse, Ron Field, Graciela Daniele, Peter Gennaro, Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon, and other stars. Choreographic credits include Oliver, Showboat, Oklahoma, Good News, West Side Story, The Threepenny Opera, Lucky Stiff, Children of Eden, Little Shop of Horrors, She Loves Me, George M, and Annie. >> Full Biography KIKORA FRANKLIN Dance akf11@psu.edu B.A. in Communications from Howard University and J.D./ M.P.A. from Georgia State University in 2000. Under the direction of founder/performer /choreographer Terrie Ajile Axam, Kikora trained for over twenty years in modern, jazz, West African, ballet, and moja dance techniques at Total Dance /Dancical Productions, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. Kikora has choreographed and performed in artistic productions that toured the Peoples' Republic of China; Dakar; Senegal; Washington, D.C. and numerous other U.S. cities. >> Full Biography CHARMIAN HOARE Voice and Speech chh11@psu.edu Trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, London, England. She has worked extensively in Britain and overseas teaching voice and dialect. Charmian has taught with Patsy Rodenburg for many years at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and with Andrew Wade and Cicely Berry at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her theatre credits include the Royal National Theatre, London; Manchester Royal Exchange; Shakespeare’s Globe, Regents Park Open Air Theatre; Stratford Festival Theatre, Stratford, Ontario; Theatre for a New Audience, New York; Almeida Theatre, London; Chichester Festival Theatre, England; Derby Playhouse, Salisbury Playhouse and many British national tours and West End productions. Has also taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts for seven years and is on the London faculty of the Asolo Theatre program with Florida State University. Film work includes Othello, An Ideal Husband, and The Butcher Boy. >> Full Biography JENNY KENYON Scenic Art and Design jenkenyon@psu.edu Prior to Penn State, Jenny taught Costume Design, Scenic Painting, and Rendering at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Prior to moving to Nebraska Jenny worked as a Costume Designer in New York City. She was the Assistant Costume Coordinator for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular, as well as designing numerous shows for theatre, opera and dance. She has worked for the WPA Theatre, the Duplex Cabaret, the Russian Ballet Theatre of Delaware, and OperaDelaware. She has taught at the University of Evansville, Manhattanville College, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the Berkeley Carroll School in NYC. >> Full Biography WILLIAM KENYON Head, Bachelor of Fine Arts Program in Design & Technology L ighting Design wkenyon@psu.edu Prior to Penn State, William taught Lighting & Sound Design at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Professor Kenyon is the resident designer for the American Indian Dance Theatre, which performs internationally each year. Recent performances have included the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Wolftrap, and the Qatar International Arts Festival. He has also designed for the Metropolitan Playhouse, Opera Delaware, Nebraska Rep, Russian Ballet Theatre of Delaware, Opera Omaha, University of Iowa, and MTI-Disney. As an educator, she has taught elementary education, dance, and art in Los Angeles Unified and served as an Arts Administrator for the California Arts Project, advocating for the arts in public education. Her research interest involves the investigation of performance as critical pedagogy. Annie joined the faculty of Penn State's School of Theatre in 1996 after teaching for seven years at Purdue University. She has been the dramaturg for several School of Theatre and Pennsylvania Centre Stage productions. She also is an actor and director, her most recent directing projects being Julius Caesar, Bad Girls, and The Waiting Room. She oversees the Theatre 100 experience, as well as teaching undergraduate acting and graduate seminars in dramatic literature. Recipient of Penn State’s George W. Head of acting and movement at Wright State University and has taught acting and movement at Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Houston. Recent guest teacher at the New York Public Theatre's Shakespeare Lab. Professional actor, certified teacher, fight director, past secretary of Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) and past vice-president of the Association for Theatre Movement Educators. Author of The Golden Buddha Changing Masks - essays on the spiritual dimension of acting and The Actor with a Thousand Faces. She received her undergraduate degree at New England College and her graduate training at the University of Connecticut. >> Full Biography DAN RIDDLE Musical Theatre Musical Director of the School of Theatre danriddle@psu.edu B.M., M.M., The Juilliard School (Piano Performance) Diplom, Hochshule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna (Piano and Conducting, Fulbright recipient). Winner of numerous international piano competitions. Performed as concerto soloist with the orchestras of Cleveland, Dallas, Monte Carlo, Cairo (Egypt), and many others. Began Broadway career in 1996 as assistant conductor of Les Miserables. Since then has conducted the New York productions of Titanic, A Class Act, Oklahoma, Into the Woods, Mamma Mia, Bombay Dreams, and The Light in the Piazza. >> Full Biography JANE RIDLEY Head, Master of Fine Arts Acting Program Acting/ Movement jmr19@psu.edu Head, Master of Fine Arts Acting Program. Regional and university work includes designs for Utah Shakespearean Festival, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Pennsylvania Centre Stage, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Missouri Repertory Theatre, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, American Heartland Theatre, Ithaca College, and University of Iowa. Television work includes design and scenic art for WPSX Public Television. >> Full Biography ERIC ROUSE Technical Director ejr127@psu.edu M.F.A from Penn State in 1997. Eric was the Technical Director at University of South Carolina in Columbia for three years. He worked for Flying by Foy in Las Vegas from 1997-1999, and freelances for them. Credits at Foy include The Backstreet Boys World Tour, Walt Disney’s World’s Tarzan show in Orlando, and various TV awards shows. Worked at Cirque du Soleil’s “O” from 1999-2002 as an Automation Technician and Supervisor in the Rigging Department, where he maintained al of the rigging elements in the theatre, helped design new elements and insured the safety of artists and technicians working overhead and under water. >> Full Biography SUSAN RUSSELL Acting and Theatre History sbr13@psu.edu Susan Russell joined the faculty in 2006 just prior to graduating "magna cum laude" from the MA/PhD theatre studies program at Florida State University. She received her M.A. degree from the Florida State University School of Theatre in 2003 and her B.A. in Theatre from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC, in 1979. Susan has acted on- and off-Broadway and in regional theatre, maintaining a career as a professional acting, voice, and musical theatre coach. While performing for five years in Phantom of the Opera, Susan was an artist/teacher for New York Offstage where she created, developed, and implemented workshops in musical theatre education and performance. Susan also created and implemented professional education and apprentice programs for New York City Opera, Cleveland Lyric Opera, Jupiter Theatre, Burt Reynolds Institute for Theatrical Training, and Seaside Music Theatre. As a playwright, her works Olympia and Present Perfect have been seen off-off Broadway at the Shurin Theatre and the HERE Theatre in Soho. Her current play, Severe Clear, which was a semi-finalist in the 2006 Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center Playwriting Conference, is in pre-production in New York City. >> Full Biography RAYMOND SAGE Voice for Musical Theatre rms44@psu.edu He received a M.M. degree in vocal performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), followed by doctoral and post-graduate work also at CCM. He received a B.M. degree in vocal performance from Baylor University. Sage was previously on the voice and musical theatre faculties of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, and New York University’s Tisch School of the Art’s Project 21, Inc. (CAP 21). As a performer, Sage appeared in the Broadway and national touring productions of Camelot, Beauty and the Beast, and Titanic, as well as in regional theatres across the country, such as Paper Mill Playhouse, Sacramento Theatre Company, and Dallas Summer Musicals. Sage is also a founding member of Monday Off, a jazz vocal quartet specializing in vocal jazz with a Broadway flair. Monday Off often appears at Carnegie Hall with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops Orchestra and at many other concert halls and jazz clubs across the United States. >> Full Biography MARY SAUNDERS Head of Voice Instruction for B.F.A Musical Theatre Voice for Musical Theatre M.A. degree from Middlebury College and the Sorbonne, Paris in French Language and Literature. B.A. cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa in French/Music from Mount Holyoke College. An active performer with Broadway, off-Broadway, film, and television credits, Saunders has recently concentrated on the creation and performance of one-woman cabaret shows, the first of which, Stop, Time, played to sell-out houses in New York City. She maintains a studio in Manhattan for professional singers. In this and recent seasons her students could be seen on Broadway in Wicked; Little Shop of Horrors; Urinetown; The Producers; Kiss Me Kate; Seussical, The Musical; Cabaret; Follies; 42nd Street, Rent, Mamma Mia and Boys from Syracuse. Ms. Saunders is frequently invited to present her workshop/seminar “BEL CANTO/CAN BELTO: Training Musical Theater Singers for the New Millennium” for convocations of singers and teachers of singing in the United States and Europe. >> Full Biography WILLIAM SCHRODER Head of M.F.A. Costume Design and M.F.A. Scenic Design Programs Costume and Scenic Design wes10@psu.edu Head of M.F.A. Costume Design Program and M.F.A. Scenic Design. B.A. from Wesleyan University. Credits include Broadway runs and national and international tours of Your Arms Too Short to Box with God, But Never Jam Today, and the costumes for Horowitz and Mrs. Washington. He has designed extensively in regional theatres across the country, designing sets and costumes for theatre, opera, and dance. His production design for Moliere's The Miser was awarded the Helen Hayes Award in Washington, D.C. He has done extensive design work for the Children's Theatre of Minneapolis. Local crew for national tours of Les Miserables, CATS, and Sesame Street Live; Ongoing design and technical consultation with local high schools, businesses, and other organizations. >> Full Biography MATTHEW KAYLOR TORONTO Directing, Acting, Musical Theatre Performance mkt132@psu.edu Matt is the associate artistic director of the Penn State New Musical Theatre Festival. He earned an M.F.A. in Directing from Penn State and a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from The University of Michigan. He has directed at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Abingdon Theatre, American Theatre of Actors, The Gallery Players, The Rosetta Festival and The Theatre at Monmouth. Matt began his professional career as an actor, performing in national tours, Off-Broadway and in regional theatres across the country. He has worked as assistant director and dramaturg for Richard Maltby Jr. and was the associate director/choreographer for Spirit: The Seventh Fire. Also a playwright, his play Propaganda has received staged readings at Ensemble Studio Theatre and Penn State. His play Mysterious Ways received readings at Manhattan Theatre Source and The Chashama Theatre. >> Full Biography C. PATRICK TYNDALL Theatre History/Africian American Theatre cpt10@psu.edu A student of Dr. Oscar Brockett, C. Patrick holds a Ph.D. in Theatre History/ Criticism/Theory/Text from the University of Texas at Austin, issued in 2002, a M.A. in Playwrighting from Miami University at Ohio and a B.A. in Theatre from Wabash College. C. Patrick's dissertation is entitled "August Wilson's Play Cycle: A Healing Black Rage for Contemporary African Americans." An actor, playwright, director, and scholar, Dr. Tyndall's most recent major publication was a chapter in the August Wilson collection, August Wilson and Black Aesthetics. >> Full Biography BILLIE WHITTAKER Accompanist/Musical Theatre buw5@psu.edu Received a M.M. in collaborative piano from the University of Arizona, and a B.M. in collaborative piano from Arizona State University. She previously held faculty appointments at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and Humboldt State University, and has also worked as an accompanist at the summer programs of Interlochen and the Brevard Music Center. >> Full Biography JIM WISE Acting jew26@psu.edu Served thirteen years as head of graduate acting and director of the SERIES X program at the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory. He began his acting and directing career in 1973 and served as artistic director of the St. Nicholas Theatre Company's New Works Series, taught acting, and directed and acted in the company's acting ensemble. In 1980, he co-founded the New Haven Playhouse in Chicago and joined the faculty at Purdue University, where he headed the M.F.A. graduate acting program from 1984 to 1989. He has directed more than sixty productions at the professional and university levels, including twelve world premieres.
