Live theatre has a long history at Penn State. Beginning with the first pageants on Old Main lawn through today, live theatrical performances have woven their way into the fabric of the cultural life of Penn State. The tradition formally began in 1919 when the Players Club was founded. Throughout the group’s evolution to the present-day the School of Theatre, University Resident Theatre Company at Penn State has combined quality education with professional theatre practice.

We perform in spaces different from those of the original Players, but the shared passion, dedication, and joy of live theatre remain alive in us as we carry on this proud tradition. In both the Playhouse and Pavilion Theatres, and our new Citizens Bank Theatre, students work to achieve excellence in acting, singing, dancing, scenic, costume, lighting, and sound design, directing, technical production, and stage management.

Through the successes of its alumni and the reputation of its faculty, the School of Theatre’s excellence is recognized across the country. Join in the experience of live theatre as we present our 2004–2005 season.
