London Program
During the summer following the first year in residence, all graduate students in theatre spend a five week summer session studying in London.

The London experience is an integral part of the graduate training programs at Penn State. Actors engage in an intensive study in voice and text work with Charmian Hoare, teacher of voice training at London’s Guildhall School and vocal coach for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Also at this time actors will study period movement and dance with UK specialists. Taking advantage of the extraordinary London theatre scene, students enhance their study of dramatic literature by attending numerous productions and meeting with important actors, directors, designers, and other theatre artists. London also provides students with limitless opportunities to visit galleries, museums, churches, and other cultural and historical sights. Long weekends are built into the program so that students may travel to other parts of the British Isles or to the continent.

Students live in apartments in the historic Bloomsbury section of midtown London, near the British Museum and within walking distance of the West End theatre district featuring some of the best classical theatre in the world. Travel to and from London, tuition, housing, some theatre tickets, group excursions, and a stipend are paid by Penn State.
